I'm back to doing what I love.
Eight years ago, as a 32 year old, career-focused new mom, my life took a sudden, radical 180 degree detour. I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
My life since the diagnosis has been a roller coaster of ups and downs. I have undergone a bone marrow transplant and participated in a number of clinical trials. And believe me, I have learned a few things along the way.
I can tell you that CBCC is more than simply a cancer center. I have always been treated as a person there–not a patient. And they did an excellent job of making something I felt was horrific into something manageable.
I have also learned that it's far better to be treated here in Bakersfield than to have to travel for care. I was often sick while undergoing treatment, so having a comprehensive facility right here at home for all my tests, treatments, and follow up was comforting.
Today, I am back working in the career I love. I'm staying busy trying to keep up with an active 10 year old...and I'm happy to be closing the book on my eight year cancer journey.
